We believe in creative freedom and open discussion. Our community includes diverse perspectives, and we welcome mature, thoughtful conversations about all aspects of anime and manga culture.

Due to the nature of our platform and the types of content that may be discussed or shared (including mature themes, NSFW content, and adult discussions about anime and manga), we require all users to be legal adults.

By using AnimeList.moe, you confirm that:

• You are at least 18 years of age
• You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement
• You meet the age of majority in your jurisdiction
• You understand that adult content may be present on the platform

Accounts discovered to belong to users under 18 will be immediately terminated. If you are under 18, please do not attempt to create an account or use our services.

Treat all community members with respect. This means:

• No harassment, bullying, or targeted attacks against other users
• No discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or disability
• No doxxing or sharing others' personal information without consent
• Disagreements about anime opinions are welcome; personal attacks are not

General Posting

• Posts should be relevant to anime, manga, or the community
• Write thoughtful reviews and discussions that contribute to conversations

NSFW Content

AnimeList.moe allows NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content with the following requirements:

• Always mark NSFW content using the NSFW toggle when posting
• NSFW content must comply with all other community guidelines
• No real-person explicit content or deepfakes
• No content depicting minors in sexual situations, regardless of fictional age claims
• Users who prefer not to see NSFW content can enable filtering in their settings

Spoilers

• Use spoiler tags for any plot reveals, especially for currently airing shows
• Include the series name and scope of spoilers in your warning
• Episode discussions should contain spoilers only up to that episode
• Respect that others may be watching at different paces

The following content is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate moderation action:

• Illegal content: Any content that violates applicable laws
• CSAM: Any sexual content involving minors, real or fictional, including AI-generated content
• AI-generated CSAM: Any artificially generated or manipulated sexual imagery depicting minors
• Revenge pornography: Non-consensual intimate images of any person
• Non-consensual imagery: Sexual or intimate content shared without the subject's consent
• Real person harassment: Targeting real individuals (including voice actors, creators) with harassment or explicit content
• Gore and extreme violence: Real-world gore, snuff content, or excessive violence
• Hate speech: Content promoting violence or hatred against protected groups
• Spam and scams: Excessive self-promotion, phishing, or fraudulent content
• Impersonation: Pretending to be another user, moderator, or public figure
• Malware: Links to malicious websites or software
• Piracy links: Direct links to illegally hosted anime/manga content

Foster healthy discussions by:

• Staying on topic in discussion threads
• Reading posts fully before responding
• Using constructive criticism rather than dismissive comments
• Accepting that others may have different tastes and opinions
• Avoiding "hot takes" designed solely to provoke reactions
• Not brigading or mass-reporting content you simply disagree with

Passionate debate is welcome! Just keep it focused on the content, not the person.

Your profile represents you in our community. Please ensure:

• Usernames don't impersonate others, especially staff or public figures
• Usernames don't contain slurs, hate speech, or offensive terms
• Profile content (avatar, banner, bio) follows the same content standards as posts
• NSFW profile images should be avoided as they appear site-wide without content warnings
• Don't use misleading usernames that suggest official status (e.g., "Admin_Official")

AnimeList.moe respects intellectual property rights and expects our users to do the same.

User Responsibilities

• Only upload content that you own or have the right to use
• Do not post copyrighted images, videos, or text without proper authorization
• Credit original creators when sharing fan art or other creative works
• Do not distribute pirated anime, manga, or other copyrighted content
• Respect licensing agreements and regional restrictions

Fair Use

We recognize that anime and manga discussion often involves referencing copyrighted material. Brief quotations, screenshots for review purposes, and discussion of copyrighted works generally fall under fair use. However, uploading complete episodes, chapters, or extensive copyrighted content is not permitted.

DMCA Compliance

We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you believe your copyrighted work has been infringed on our platform, please review our DMCA Policy for information on how to submit a takedown notice. Copyright owners or their authorized agents may submit DMCA notices to dmca@animelist.moe.

Consequences

Users who repeatedly infringe copyrights will have their accounts terminated in accordance with our repeat infringer policy. See our DMCA Policy for more details.

If you encounter content that violates these guidelines, please report it using the report button on any post, discussion, or profile.

How to Report

• Click the report icon (flag) on the content
• Select the most appropriate reason
• Provide additional context if helpful
• Submit and let our moderation team review

Copyright Infringement Reports

For copyright-related complaints, please use our DMCA process rather than the general report system. DMCA notices should be sent to dmca@animelist.moe.

What Happens Next

• Reports are reviewed by our moderation team
• We evaluate content against these guidelines
• Appropriate action is taken (warning, content removal, suspension, or ban)
• We may not notify you of the outcome to protect privacy

Please don't abuse the report system. False reports waste moderator time and may result in action against your account.

We use a progressive discipline system to address guideline violations:

• Minor Warning: For first-time or minor violations. A reminder to review the guidelines.
• Major Warning: For repeated or more serious violations. Further issues may result in suspension.
• Final Warning: Last chance before suspension or permanent ban. Any further violations will result in account action.
• Temporary Suspension: Account access restricted for a set period (1 day to 6 months).
• Permanent Ban: Reserved for severe violations or repeated offenders. Access to the platform is permanently revoked.

Severe violations (illegal content, CSAM, AI-generated CSAM, revenge porn, non-consensual imagery, or serious harassment) may result in immediate permanent bans without prior warnings.

If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you can appeal:

• Contact us at appeals@animelist.moe
• Include your username and a description of the action
• Explain why you believe the decision should be reconsidered
• Appeals are typically reviewed within 7 business days

Please note that appeals for violations of prohibited content (Section 5) are rarely overturned unless there was a clear mistake in identification.
